Pepatián presents, Dancing Futures: Jeevika Bhat

Miyan explores the magical music of Tansen, a legendary 16th century musical prodigy who pioneered the Hindustani Gwalior Gharana. Born mute, it is mythologized that Tansen was mystically gifted with the ability to sing, and grew up to master magical raagas which calmed rogue elephants, caused lamps to spark and burn, and summoned sweet rain from the sky.

The dancers, as music notes and sound waves, exist first entirely within the artist's mind, synesthesially responding to instinct and creative impetus. As these metaphysical ideas come bursting out of the brain to manifest as physical reality, Miyan seeks to uncover the actual mechanism of the artistic process. How can we conceive the immense intricacy of what subconsciously happens within someone who finds their art to be easy?
